BMW - The New Face of 2021 M3 (G80)
“Welcome to the daunting assignment of updating the Body-style for the new 2021 BMW M3 (G80).”
With such a prestigious stable how do you even begin?
Evolution has started from the ground up, an All new entirely re-engineered chassis and drive-train support delivery of razor-sharp driving performance and precision. Beyond basic transportation functionality, under the hood lives a 6 cylinder high-revving S58 power plant offering two output stages, 353 kW / 473 hp base or 375 kW / 503 hp Competition version, if you are feeling the need.
On the surface the body lines are sleek, handles are redesigned to give less drag. Pulling cues from the EV futuristic products and concepts, pulling hints from Italian styling and German competitors, BMW stands alone with a beautiful vehicle.
Only comments that remain is what is going on upfront with the Front Fascia and Grille. Historically there have been large grille openings in the form language and design of the front fascia so this could be a reinterpreted throwback. Could this be to get more induction into the engine bay for cooling or is this just a carry over futuristic vision of leading exterior designers. As we have scene EV vehicles like Tesla re-interpreting the lack of need for cooling in frunk to gain better aerodynamic range.
Gauging the amount of public opinion on this, it gives pause to look at some custom mod throw-back concepts to a what could have been or still could be styling of the face of BMW. A concept to address Aerodynamics, Space for radiator and inter-coolers with a concept to address the hood cut-lines and aggressive face “snorting” grilles while packaging the ultimate driving machine’s “heart of the beast”. Lets start by designing it around the real-world worst-case scenario of having to have a front license plate.
Personally I’m looking forward to driving the New BMW M3 and know that the BMW Design and Engineering Team have done an amazing job like they always do.
